Silverlight 2 Beta 2 and Visual Studio Express 2008

    Hi all,

Just a quick question. I want to start teaching myself Silverlight at home, but unfortunately I don't have the means to have Visual Studio 2008 (legally) installed there, so I have to make do with VS 2008 Express. Now, my question is, will VS2008 Express be able to generate and develop Silverlight Beta 2 applications?

    Thanks,

Unfortunately the Silverlight 2 beta 2 Tools don't support Visual Studio 2008 Express editions yet. I'm sure you could bootstrap them manually using the Silverlight SDK and MSBuild, but it will be supported in Visual Studio 2008 Web Developer Express Edition when Silverlight 2 RTMs.

    Hi Craig,

Thanks a lot. Was just wondering. Do you have an ETA on when Silverlight 2 will go RTM?

    Thanks,

As far as I know, before the end of the year.

You could grab the beta's of Blend (since they have all the latest features anyway) and use that, then just use VS Express for just the code behind stuff.

    Hi rmaclean,

I remember seeing Blend in a SL video somewhere. It's all coming back to me now. I'll give it a try.

    Thanks,
